Horseshoe Bay Resort

Unparalleled Luxury

By Jennifer Taylor

Horseshoe Bay Resort is the perfect vacation destination ideally situated in the Texas Hill Country. Located just 45 minutes from Austin, Texas, the resort encompasses 7,000 acres along the shore of Lake LBJ. With its 6,000-foot runway at Horseshoe Bay Airport and Jet Center (XS7), owners and guests can be out of their planes and on the golf course in under ten minutes.

Founder Norman Hurd and his cousin Wayne had a vision for the resort back in1968 when they purchased and developed the land. Martha Heagany, chief marketing officer for Horseshoe Bay Resort comments, “The goal really was to develop this club where people came and it would be utopia for them, whether they wanted to pretend they were at their favorite place in the Caribbean or in Mexico.”

First time visitors will feel as though they have discovered an oasis with the plethora of palm tress, beautiful water features and exotic birds. Heagany further describes the tropical feeling of the resort. “When you think of Texas, you don’t think of palm trees. We also have an unbelievable collection of parrots.”

The resort has something to offer everyone from the plentiful amenities to the accommodations. The Waters are tastefully appointed, privately owned condominiums overlooking Lake LBJ that are second homes for many of the owners. The Four Diamond rated Marriott, managed by Horseshoe Bay Resort, boasts spacious meeting rooms, restaurants, suites and nearby villas with more than the comforts of home.

Under the leadership of G. Michael Thomas, president and chief operating officer along with Heagany, the resort is continuing to add upgrades for residents and visiting guests alike. Heagany notes the resort is a prime destination for companies to hold meetings, use as incentives and of course, to entertain guests with the array of amenities from dining, to the marina, tennis courts, spa, and golf. All guests are able to enjoy the club benefits during their visit.

Golf enthusiasts have flocked to Horseshoe Bay Resort over the years to the courses featured in Golf Magazine and Dallas Morning News. In addition to three challenging 18-hole championship golf courses designed by legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr., is a brand new Jack Nicklaus signature course that will open in late 2009. Also unique to the resort is an 18-hole par 72 made-to-scale putting course with bunkers and Bermuda grass.

Along with the new golf course will be a new 20,000-square-foot spa with a 10,000-square-foot fitness center Heagany says will be completed by fall 2009. The current spa with its extensive list of pampering services and Bayside Fitness Center will be open until the new project is finished.

Anyone who visits the area will be captivated by the beauty and landscaped grounds complete with waterfalls and picturesque bridges. Often first time visitors decide they want to create more than a vacation memory and make a trip to one of the real estate companies owned by the resort. “Once people get here they fall in love with it,” Heagany, a property owner exclaims. “It’s just a jewel.” The Hurds must have felt the same way over 30 years ago when they decided to invest in the magnificent property, as well as the Jaffe family who purchased the entire resort in 1996. When planning a vacation, place Horseshoe Bay Resort at the top of the list.
